The very first death case of COVID – 19 Patient in Myanmar

One COVID-19 Positive Patient passed away

Situation: According to local sources, COVDI-19 (Case-05) passed away at Waibargit hospital on 31st March at 7:40 am.

Background:  As per MoHS report, COVID -19 (Case-05) is a 69 years old Myanmar citizen who suffers nose cancer arrived at Myanmar on 14th March after getting treatment at Australia for one month and staying for 4 days at Singapore. On 18th March, he felt symptoms of sickness and he was treated as PUI at Yangon General Hospital on 25th March. On 26th March, he is resulted as Positive and was transferred to Waibargi Hospital on 27th March.

COVID -19 (Case – 09) who has close contact with (Case-05) is being treated at Waibargi Hospital since on 28th March………………………………………………………

Myanmar temporarily stops all international commercial flights for landing

Situation. According to 29th March notice from the Department of Civil Aviation, with reference to a directive from the Ministry of Health and sport, Myanmar will no longer allow the landing of all international commercial passenger flights in all Myanmar airports to prevent the importation of COVID-19 via air travel. The statement said that all landing permissions previously granted by the Department of Civil Aviation are suspended.

Nevertheless, the temporary measures will not affect relief flights, medical evacuation flights, all-cargo flights, and special flights specifically approved by the Department of Civil Aviation. This temporary measure will be effective from 30th March at 23:59Hrs to 13th April at 23:59Hrs.

There are 4 PUI whose results are still pending at following hospitals.

It is reported that among 157 PUI in Myanmar, 3 PUI died on 17th and 18th March during getting medical treatments at respective hospitals. According to initial report, the cause of death is not related to COVID-19 and they are suffering other diseases since they arrived at hospitals. They are –

  • 30 years old man, Kengtung General Hospital, Shan (East) pending result
  • 40 years old man, North Okkalapa Teaching and General Hospital, resulted as Negative……………………………………………………………
