Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 26 December Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 734 new Covid-19 cases had been identified in 24 hours, i.e. 120,906 cases since the beginning of the second wave, on 16 August. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 121,280 people have been contaminated in Myanmar, and a total of 2,579 people have died of Covid-19. At 18:00 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 734 cases:

In Yangon Region, 287 new cases were reported, i.e. 80,069 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Shwepyithar (+25 cases), Tamwe (+24) and Mingaladon (+20). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,200 cases each.    

In Mandalay Region, 158 new cases were reported, i.e. 12,484 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Mya Thazi (+36 cases), Chan Aye Tharzan (+30) and Aung Myay Tharzan (+28). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 1,500 cases each.
