
Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 27 December Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 606 new Covid-19 cases had been identified in 24 hours, i.e. 121,512 cases since the beginning of the second wave, on 16 August. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 121,886 people have been contaminated in Myanmar, and a total of 2,601 people have died of Covid-19. At 16:30 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 606 cases:

In Yangon Region, 228 new cases were reported, i.e. 80,297 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Mingaladon (+31 cases), Tamwe (+18) and Hlaing Tharyar (+18). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,200 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 121 new cases were reported, i.e. 12,605 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Maha Aung Myay (+30 cases), Chan Mya Tharzi (+20) and Chan Aye Tharzan (+20). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 1,500 cases each.
