Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic: 587 More Confirmed Cases on 30 December and the Extension of International Commercial Flights Suspension until 31 January 2021

At 20:00, the Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS) reported 587 new cases in the last 24 hours, i.e. 123,096 cases since the beginning of the second wave (16 August). Details about those new cases will be released tomorrow evening.
Those 587 cases were detected out of 17,010 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, i.e. a positivity rate of 3.5%. The MoHS also stated that 27 more patients had died from the disease in the last 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in Myanmar, in March 2020, 123,470 people have been contaminated by Covid-19, and 2,664 have died from it.

Another major news was also announced: despite initial announcement that international commercial flights would resume by 1 January 2021, both Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport and Communications stated that they will actually remain suspended until the end of January 2021. The suspension of international commercial flights was put in place on 28 March and has been extended since then.
