Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 9 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 566 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 130,049 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 2,826 people have died from it. At 19:30 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 566 cases:

In Yangon Region, 203 new cases were reported, i.e. 84,557 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in East Dagon (+34 cases), Thingangyun (+17) and Kamayut (+13). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,700 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 122 new cases were reported, i.e. 14,748 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Mya Tharzi (+23 cases), Aung Myay Tharzan (+15) and Maha Aung Myay (+14). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,300 cases each.
