Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 20 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 478 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 135,721 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 2,997 people have died from it. At 18:00 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 478 cases:

As it has been the case for several days in a row, Mandalay Region ranks higher than Yangon Region, with 130 new cases reported, i.e. 16,325 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Aung Myay Tharzan (+23 cases), Taungthar (+17 cases) and Sintgaing(+14 cases). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,500 cases each.
In Yangon Region, 106 new cases were reported, i.e. 86,411 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Ahlone (+10 cases), Hlaing (+9 cases) and Mingalardon (+8 cases). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,800 cases each.
