Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 21 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 445 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 136,166 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 3,013 people have died from it. At 16:30 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 445 cases:

Mandalay Region reported 103 new cases, i.e. 16,428 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Aye Tharzan (+16 cases), Maha Aung Myay (+15) and Mogok (+10). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,400 cases each.
In Yangon Region, 101 new cases were reported, i.e. 86,512 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Mayangone (+11 cases), Insein (+10) and South Okkalapa (+9). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,800 cases each.
