Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 14 January Cases

After a short suspension for technical reasons, EXERA team is glad to resume the publication of its Covid-19 flashes. As a reminder, 551 cases were identified on 12 January and 523 on 13 January. Yesterday evening, 14 January, at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 605 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 132,865 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 2,912 people have died from it. At 18:00 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 605 cases:

In Yangon Region, 148 new cases were reported, i.e. 85,696 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in North Dagon (+17 cases), North Okkalapa (+12) and South Dagon (+11). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,800 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 131 new cases were reported, i.e. 15,560 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Mya Tharzi (+17 cases), Aung Myay Tharzan (+14), and Maha Aung Myay (+13). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,300 cases each.
